Meet Stirling
Stirling Hinchliffe is the Member for Sandgate, representing Brisbane’s northern bayside.
First elected to the Queensland Parliament in 2006, Stirling has served as a Minister in a variety of economic and social portfolios. Across this time he has overseen the development of affordable housing choices, growth in Queensland’s successful resources sector, a strong regional plan balancing economic growth and protection of our local environment, delivered employment programs including Skilling Queenslanders for Work, delivered fairer public transport fares in South-East Queensland, deregulated the Queensland personalised transport industry to allow for greater competition, increased transparency and accountability to Queensland’s system of Local Government, bolstered support for the racing industry across three codes and worked closely with multicultural communities throughout the State.
During his most recent ministerial appointment, as Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport, Stirling provided leadership and assistance for Queensland’s visitor economy to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, enhanced support for the Advance Queensland suite of programs and was part of the team that secured the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games for Brisbane.
Currently, he serves as the Chair of the Ethics Committee.
Prior to public life, Stirling worked in a variety of public and private sector jobs, as well has having run his own small business. Stirling’s interests include history and sport, especially basketball.
Stirling has announced he will not be contesting the October 2024 State Election.
