A Sandgate based writer and director has been awarded $40,680 to stage the world premiere of a new musical inspired by the songs of legendary Brisbane band The Go-Betweens.
Kate Wild of Now Look Here theatre company has received the funding through the Queensland Arts Showcase Programme.
“The Sound of a Finished Kiss features four friends remembering their lives in Brisbane in the 1990s, and the songs of The Go-Betweens that shaped them,” Ms Wild said.
“It will highlight the brilliant songwriting partnership of Grant McLennan and Robert Forster.”
The Sound of a Finished Kiss will premiere at the Brisbane Powerhouse in June.
Member for Sandgate, Stirling Hinchliffe, said QASP aims to develop and grow a vibrant and diverse arts sector in Queensland.
“QASP investment supports and celebrates local arts and culture and promotes our talented artists, writers and performers,” Mr Hinchliffe said.
“These newly funded projects are a great example of how QASP continues to support the development of new works and events by emerging and established creatives that provide quality arts experiences.”
Since QASP was established in September 2015, there has been more than $7 million invested in more than 200 arts projects, resulting in great audience experiences, more arts-related jobs and the generation of cultural tourism opportunities across Queensland.
