Letter to the Editor: Local schools to benefit from solar and energy efficient infrastructure

15 Mar 2018

Like you, I know how many schools across the 4017 and surrounds have programmes in place to reduce their environmental impact.

This is why I am pleased to announce that our local schools are set to benefit from the Advancing Clean Energy Schools programme through investing in solar and energy efficient technology.

Schools included in the programme include:
• Bracken Ridge State High School
• Bracken Ridge State School
• Nashville State School
• Norris Road State School
• Sandgate District State High School
• Sandgate State School
• Shorncliffe State School
• Taigum State School

Schools will be selected based on their energy consumption, student enrolments and supplier availability with the tender process requiring successful partners to use local suppliers where possible.

This means not only will our local schools benefit, but also our local tradies and businesses too.

Renewable energy technology has developed significantly, so it is exciting to see local state schools take advantage of the opportunities that now exist to make energy savings.

By reducing costs and reinvesting savings into the programme, we can ensure our state schools have a more sustainable energy supply by the time the programme concludes, in the 2019-20 financial year.
