Having lived in the area since he was four and attended the Craigslea Primary and High Schools, Stirling chose to settle locally with his young family.
Before his election to Parliament, Stirling already had a track-record of local community involvement, including as founding president of the Chermside and Districts Historical Society.
Stirling and his wife Megan have three children aged 12, 10 and 4 and reside in the suburb of West Chermside.
As well as more than twenty years active service within the Labor Party, he brings a wide range of work experience from the private sector and from government at all three levels. Immediately prior to his election, Stirling was a self-employed property industry analyst.
Having served as a Parliamentary Secretary during his first term, Stirling was elevated to the Cabinet as Minister for Infrastructure and Planning following the March 2009 re-election of the Bligh Government.
